chennai sangamam story

Chennai Sangamam began with a conversation between Kanimozhi and Fr.Jegath Gaspar Raj. It was in September 2006. We wanted to organize a fest during Pongal, centered around the art forms which reflect the shared socio-cultural experiences of the people of Tamil Nadu. At the same time we wanted it to be an inclusive City Festival which would befit the cosmopolitan character of Chennai today. The Chennai Sangamam idea was born.

We knew that some day the Festival would become big receiving popular acclaim and embrace. But when it rolled out on February 21, 2008 we realized people of Chennai had long been waiting for such a festival that brought arts closer to their homes and lives. Above all a festival that brought them together as a community. For many it also brought nostalgic memories of their old village festivals. For the younger generation the sheer energy of the folk rhythms and intensity of the presentation and colors were electrifying and enthralling.

The idea to have it in the open parks, beaches and streets was an inspiration from the Bangaluru Habba celebrations. The support given by the Dept. of Tourism & Culture-Govt. of Tamil Nadu and the media played a key role in the success of our first edition of Chennai Sangamam held in 2007.The enduring symbol of Chennai Sangamam – the Calf-Head logo was the creation of artist Maruthu.

The Food component that got added in the second edition of Chennai Sangamam in 2008 enhanced the popular appeal of the festival and all credits should go to Mr.Mahadevan, Chairman, Oriental Cuisines Pvt.Ltd and the South India Culinary Association under the leadership of Chef Sounderrajan.

Chennai has a rich tradition of classical music. Carnatic music enjoys a well informed and sophisticated audience. Chennai Sangamam brought classical music to the open. Afficianados found it refreshing. To the commoner it came without any cost. Sincere thanks to the top line Carnatic classical artists who gladly sang in the parks and beaches.

We hope some day Chennai Sangamam would grow as one of the best

The maximum hair length that is possible to reach is about 15 cm for infants (below the age of 1), about 60 cm for children (below the age of 13), and generally 100 cm for adults. Documentation for decrease of the maximum length with age cannot be found in the literature. Some individuals can reach excessive lengths. Lengths greater than 150 cm are frequently observed in long hair contests................
Women often have a stronger inclination towards long hair than men do. Younger women tend to have longer hair than older women. Hair length and quality can act as a cue to a woman's youth and health, signifying reproductive potential

I have used castor oil on my scalp for almost a year (mixed with avocado oil, which is lighter and is also said to encourage growth). My hair grew incredibly well all last year (I went from BSL and am now less than an inch shy of tailbone - all this with regular trims).
I stopped using castor oil over the past two months (due to lack of time) and my hair has grown significantly slower. I know hair tends to grow slower in the winter, but still - I'm thinking there's probably a link. Of course, scalp massages themselves help, too, but I'm pretty certain the castor oil gave my hair growth a boost, too. At least on me

Even if you plan on growing your hair out further you should trim your hair once every 3 months, if not split ends will cause your hair to break off and your hair will begin to lose it's beauty,                                            if you plan on just maintaining your length, a trim once every month and a half to two months should sufficent

The name Chennai is a shortened form of Chennaipattinam, the name of the town that grew around Fort St. George, which was built by the English in 1640. There are two versions about the origin of the name Chennai: according to one version, Chennaipattinam was named after Damarla Chennappa Nayakudu, Nayaka of Kalahasthi and Vandavasi father of Damarla Venkatadri Nayakudu, from whom the English acquired the town in 1639. The first official use of the name Chennai is said to be in a sale deed, dated August 1639, to Francis Day of the English East India Company. According to the second account, Chennapattinam was named after the Chenna Kesava Perumal Temple;
